Maximum strength and efficiency in timber construction: KonstruX ST fully threaded screws from Eurotec
Timber has low compressive and tensile strength, so timber construction requires particularly strong connections that can absorb most of the forces that occur. KonstruX fully threaded screws are used for reinforcement, absorbing a large proportion of these forces. The ETA-certified KonstruX ST fully threaded screws from Eurotec are characterized by their ST drill point. It maximizes the load-bearing capacity of a joint due to its high thread pull-out resistance in both components. The screw-in torque is also reduced. This makes the screw suitable for all load-bearing connections in timber construction.
The KonstruX ST fully threaded screw provides a concealed connection and offers high fire resistance. In addition, the load-bearing capacity of the joists can be increased and deflection reduced by doubling. KonstruX fully threaded screws guarantee a rigid connection of the components.
Efficient and safe connections play a central role in modern timber construction projects. A comparison of different jointing methods shows clear differences in load-bearing capacity, which vary depending on the material and jointing method used:
In this example Eurotec KonstruX ST fully threaded screws with a length of 245 mm and a diameter of 8 mm are compared with traditional comb nail and dowel connections. The Eurotec KonstruX ST fully threaded screws achieve characteristic resistance values (Rvk) according to ETA-11/0024, which depend on the number of pairs of screws. With only one pair of screws, the joint achieves a resistance of 16.43 kN, while four pairs of screws increase the resistance to 57.21 kN. This illustrates that a significant increase in load capacity can be achieved by using multiple pairs of bolts.
On the other hand, the static calculation for connections with nails and four rod dowels shows how they perform under different load conditions. The compressive and tensile strengths are shown for different secondary beam sizes. A 60 × 180 mm secondary beam can support a load of 19.4 kN in the downward direction, while a 120 × 180 mm secondary beam has a higher load-bearing capacity of 22.5 kN. The calculations are based on different modification factors (kmod) which take into account the capacity for different load requirements (permanent, medium, or short term).
The comparison clearly shows that the KonstruX ST fully threaded screws can offer greater flexibility and load-bearing capacity, especially when the number of fasteners is increased. Traditional fasteners also provide solid values, but do not achieve the same level of performance as the Eurotec KonstruX ST full thread fasteners for a comparable number of joints.
In addition, the KonstruX ST fully threaded screws save a lot of time, as the holes for the dowels have to be drilled precisely for the joists. Then 16 nails have to be hammered in, and the beam has to be slotted in the joinery so that the beam support can be inserted. In comparison, with KonstruX ST fully threaded screws, only two pairs of screws are directly screwed in without any complications, and they also carry a higher load than the beam supports.
KonstruX ST fully threaded screws offer a cost-effective alternative to conventional joints or timber connectors such as joist hangers and joist hangers, and can also be installed in a visually appealing, completely invisible manner.
