Flat roof installation with east-west mounting

Solar mounting for flat roofs: The FLD flat roof system from Eurotec
Solar systems are now a key component of a more sustainable energy supply. They enable the local generation of clean electricity, reduce energy costs and offer the opportunity to become less dependent on rising electricity prices. Whether for private households, commercial enterprises or public institutions, the added value of having your own solar system means long-term cost-effectiveness, active climate protection and a secure energy supply.
In order for a solar system to reach its full potential, it is crucial to choose not only the right modules but also a suitable mounting system, including fasteners. The type and location of the roof surface determine how the modules are to be installed correctly.
Eurotec offers suitable mounting solutions for various (roof) applications:
- Pitched roofs
- Metal and lightweight roofs
- Flat roofs
- In-roof
- Mini power plants
- Penetration-free substructures
Flat roofs in particular are widely used in commercial construction, residential complexes and public areas and offer great potential due to their flexibility in terms of installation. East-west mounting has proven to be particularly advantageous and efficient. It makes optimum use of the available space, reduces the load and ensures consistent power generation throughout the day. In addition, the systems on flat roofs can still be combined with green roofs.

Why is east-west mounting a good idea?
East-west mounting offers numerous advantages over traditional south-facing mounting:
- Optimal use of space: The special arrangement of the modules allows for a higher module density on the usable roof area.
- Lower wind loads: The flat inclination reduces the ballast requirement and protects the roof's structural integrity.
- Uniform energy yield throughout the day: Constant electricity production from morning to evening.
- Low shading: Shorter shadow periods result from sufficient spacing and the correct angle of inclination.
- Cost-effectiveness: Flexible alignment options are possible regardless of roof shape and pitch.
The load-bearing capacity of a flat roof should always be checked by experts (structural engineers, architects) before installing a photovoltaic system!

FLD flat roof system – mounting systems for east-west mounting
Stable base for solar mounting on flat roofs
The FLD flat roof system from Eurotec was specially developed for the requirements of solar mounting on flat roofs. It combines stable mounting components with optional wind protection elements, thus ensuring a durable and economical solution. The FLD flat roof system is an efficient system that can be installed quickly and easily, reducing not only time but also labour costs. Robust mounting and ballast profiles form the basic structure and provide stable support for the solar modules. They form the supporting framework on which the modules are securely fixed, while at the same time ensuring even load distribution across the roof surface.
The system also includes the FLD front footv and FLD foot rear, which together form the support structure for the modules. Both are available in fixed tilt angles of 10° or 15°, enabling precise alignment of the modules. The rear foot provides stable support for the rear of the module, while the front foot supports the front. The modules are fixed in place using module clamps FASTFIX. The result is a well-designed system that not only saves time and labour costs, but also optimally meets the requirements of modern photovoltaic systems on flat roofs.
Wind protection solutions for flat roofs
In addition to the mounting components, the FLD system includes wind protection solutions (FLD wind protection and FLD laterial wind protection), which are particularly indispensable in areas with high wind loads. They serve to divert wind forces in a targeted manner (either at the sides or at the rear) and relieve the load on the substructure. This prevents wind pressure from shifting the solar modules and putting strain on the entire mounting system.
With these optional components, we offer a fully coordinated system solution that is easy to install, durable and economical, and meets all the requirements of a modern flat roof system in every situation.
Step by step to perfect east-west mounting with the FLD flat roof system
With just a few steps and the appropriate products for flat roofs, installation is quick and easy:
1. Preparation
Roof inspection (à statics, roof covering, waterproofing), area calculation, load and ballast planning, material provision
2. Assemble the substructure
Fastening the mounting profiles using fixing screws
String assembly – setting up the mounting profiles in an east-west direction, laying them out at the appropriate distance
Fastening the ballast profiles to the mounting profiles
3. Extending the substructure
Set up for the fastening of additional modules
4. Ballasting
Use of load distribution plates and placement of ballast stones
5. Module assembly
Fastening with FASTFIX module clamps
The basic structure of the solar system can be expanded at any time as desired. To do so, simply follow the steps described above.
East-west mounting for flat roofs: stable, economical and future-proof
East-west mounting on flat roofs has established itself as the preferred solution. It combines high space efficiency with consistent energy production and reduced ballast requirements. With the FLD flat roof system, we offer a tried-and-tested mounting system that combines ease of installation, stability and cost-effectiveness, thus creating a future-proof basis for high-performance photovoltaic systems on flat roofs.
